Showmen's Rest - Part 5

CLICK HERE to find the complete series

To All Showfolks and Fans:

We continue the SHOWMEN'S REST series with the gravestones of:
  • TERRY FENNE and
  • JACK LLOYD FULTON
All photos were taken in the SHOWMEN'S REST section of Mount Olivet Cemetery in Hugo, Oklahoma. We will scan photos and send at least three per email over the next few weeks.

Also, if there are any corrections to information we list in this series, please contact us immediately so we may set the record straight at peterscircus@AOL.com.

The photos in this email are the gravestones of:

1. TERRY FENNE
FEB 10, 1950
STILL LIVING

As it notes on his monument, Terry Fenne is a mud show elephant man. Terry has trouped with Carson & Barnes Circus, Circus, Clyde Beatty - Cole Bros. Circus, Roberts Bros. Circus, Circus Genoa, Fisher Bros. Circus and Kelly Miller Circus. His monument is a seat where one can sit down and look upon the beautiful and tranquil grounds of Mount Olivet Cemetery. Etched on his gravestone are all six logos of the circuses Terry has trouped with. Also inscribed on the monument are the words:
MUD SHOW ELEPHANT MAN

HAVE A SEAT ON ME
which is followed by Terry's signature
Your hosts have spent many wonderful moments sitting on this monument enjoying the peace and thoughts of the adventures experienced by troupers who are and will be interred at Mount Olivet Cemetery. Thank you Terry.

2. JACK LLOYD FULTON
AUG 26, 1928
JUL 21, 1995

Jack Fulton worked for D. R. Miller in many capacities. On his gravestone are the etchings of a giraffe and African elephant.

HOST NOTES:

We would like you to note that all of the showfolks interred at Mount Olivet will not be represented. Only those monuments that noted a circus motif were photographed. If you have photos and information of other showfolk's monuments, please send as soon as possible to: peterscircus@AOL.com

Photos will be sent so they show in the body of the email. We will also attach them to the email so those of you who are able to open attachments can view them at full size. Also, we will note the text etched on each gravestone if they are hard to read in the photo.

This series is being done because it is felt that many folks will not be able to journey to Hugo, Oklahoma to see these magnificent monuments. These gravestones have been erected to honor the memory of those whose varied skills have allowed the circus-going public to view the wonder of the CIRCUS.

Sincerely,

Peter and Joyce Rosa
