Forepaugh-Lubin Tent in conjunction with Tyrone Historical Society conducted the their annual memorial service for the Walter L. Main train wreck on April 24 in Tyrone, PA.
"We Need To Pick Up Our Lives After
These Things Happen"
Rev. Norman Huff, Chaplain
Forepaugh-Lubin Tent made this statement on April 24, 2008 as he described the
early morning Memorial Day 1893, Walter L. Main train that careened off the main
tracks near Tyrone, PA. Killing five circus staff members along with scores of
animals.
Rev. Huff said, "We need to pick up our lives after these things
happen." This was the featured Altoona Mirror "Your Town" Memorial Day
newspaper article. Forepaugh-Lubin Tent in conjunction with Tyrone Historical
Society conducted the service last month due the 2007 CFA Hershey Convention May
20-25th.
Don Curtis, National CFA President was included in the memorial
service and was interviewed by the Mirror. Don, stated we are here to help the
circus any way we can. Don, admitted that the traveling shows are under
pressure from animal rights groups, although he said much of the criticism is
unfounded. "They're not educated," Curtis said, adding that most circus animals
live better than most people. "You have to see it to believe it." Susie
O'Brien, Tent President lives on the property that the train wreck
occurred. The annual service will go back to a May date in 2008.
Next Forepaugh-Lubin Event will be
the September 23rd Meeting that takes place at the Tyrone, PA Train Station
located on the mainline to Horseshoe Curve. So far during 2007 Forepaugh-Lubin
Tent hosted the April Jaffa Shrine Circus Bonanza and hosted the just concluded
CFA Hershey Convention.
